Why do I prefer container gardening?

Almost all my plants are kept in containers - any shape and size! A lot of people do prefer to garden in raised beds, the soil can keep its quality better year after year in the ground.  But I prefer to use a different container for each plant! Container gardening is keeping all your plants in pots. It's ideal for if you don't have much space, or for me it works better! For beginners it's a good way to start, you don't need to buy much.  Weeding your plants is much easier: With only the space in the container, it's easier to keep up with weeding. As I’m weeding more often, I find the roots don't get a chance to develop, and they pull out easier. I can avoid the pesky mosquitoes in the summer: Mosquitos are the devil in the summer! Pumpkin patches/picking to visit in Essex – 2021


Now that we have stepped into September, pumpkins are very nearly ready for harvest. Pumpkin picking is a great activity for all ages and it is generally inexpensive.

 

Please note, not all 2021 dates have been released at the time of writing this.

Hatters farm is located in Bishop’s Stortford and as well as PYO pumpkin, they have a pumpkin night, maize maze, pumpkin cannon, and nature trail.

DATES (PYO): 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th and 23rd-31st of October from 10am till 4pm

Foxes Farm have two locations in Basildon and Colchester. The farms also offer a mud run and Christmas trees (from November)!

DATES (PYO): 25th and 26th of September, 2nd and 3rd, 9th and 10th, 16th and 17th, 18th-31st of October.

Hurley’s Pumpkin Forest in Battlesbridge has PYO pumpkins, pumpkin bowling, witches’ maze, precious ring swing, pumpkin wizzlebee, and wizard’s welly wanging! Christmas trees are also currently available.

This is a location that has been on my to-visit list! They offer PYO all year long, a list of 10 different fruit and veg, and pumpkins are available in October.

This ‘Pumpkin Village’ offers SEN Friendly pumpkin picking with specific dates. They are now cashless, so make sure to bring your card/s.

SEN DATES: 16th and 17th of October
