Why do I prefer container gardening?

Almost all my plants are kept in containers - any shape and size! A lot of people do prefer to garden in raised beds, the soil can keep its quality better year after year in the ground.  But I prefer to use a different container for each plant! Keep reading to hear my pros and cons for container gardening. u/Longjumping-Quit7471, u/Living-Valuable-376, u/Parking-Bit-9217, u/RaintreeJames   What is container gardening? Container gardening is keeping all your plants in pots. It's ideal for if you don't have much space, or for me it works better! For beginners it's a good way to start, you don't need to buy much.  Weeding your plants is much easier: With only the space in the container, it's easier to keep up with weeding. As I’m weeding more often, I find the roots don't get a chance to develop, and they pull out easier. I can avoid the pesky mosquitoes in the summer: Mosquitos are the devil in the summer! Using mulch to kill weeds: good method for winter

  • layer paper or cardboard with mulch
  • this blocks the light, killing anything underneath it
  • looks natural and more tidy

Using malt vinegar to kill weeds: best for gravel or paved areas

  • pour vinegar in a spray bottle, and spray weeds
  • add washing up liquid and salt to increase strength
  • spray on a sunny, not windy day – the sun will dry it quicker, the lack of wind stops the liquid blowing around

Flame gun for killing weeds: my favourite for clearing beds with potted plants

  • light the flame gun and hover the flame above the ground
  • don’t burn the weeds to ash, just enough to make the surface look dull
  • burning kills the cell structure, killing the roots too!
  • A better method than using harsh chemicals

Weed fabric: good option for areas that will have no plants

  • will let some water into the soil, but blocks out all light so plants underneath it die
  • some are UV treated so they won’t break down easily
  • will also block nutrients, so you will have to adjust your soil afterwards
  • strong perennial weeds can grow through or around it
