Why do I prefer container gardening?

Almost all my plants are kept in containers - any shape and size! A lot of people do prefer to garden in raised beds, the soil can keep its quality better year after year in the ground.  But I prefer to use a different container for each plant! Container gardening is keeping all your plants in pots. It's ideal for if you don't have much space, or for me it works better! For beginners it's a good way to start, you don't need to buy much.  Weeding your plants is much easier: With only the space in the container, it's easier to keep up with weeding. As I’m weeding more often, I find the roots don't get a chance to develop, and they pull out easier. I can avoid the pesky mosquitoes in the summer: Mosquitos are the devil in the summer! 1) The Ivy St John’s Wood Restaurant

As shown in the photos, The Ivy at St John’s Wood has beautiful botanical table decorations for you to marvel at. This Easter they are also offering a limited-edition Ester Bird’s Nest dessert and some specials on their main menu.

2) New Covent Garden Flower Market

Flower markets are very popular and the New Covent Garden market has 152 wholesalers in their 32 acre space. If you’re an early bird it will be well worth the trip - their opening times are: 4am-10am.

3) RHS Botanical Art & Photography Show 2022

The Saatchi Gallery (near Sloane Square Station) has their RHS Botanical Art & Photography Show available until 29th April 2022. The show displays award winning photos and artwork with some stretching back as far as the 1630s. Tickets are £5, concessions are available, and free to RHS members.

4) Butterfly Garden Family Learning Workshop at Kew Gardens

Kew Gardens wants to help butterflies by getting you involved with planting! 71% of UK butterfly species are under threat, but you can help them by growing their favourite plants. This activity will be a ‘make and take’ so you can continue growing at home. It is included in your ticket.

5) Columbia Road Flower Market

Columbia Road Flower Market is better suited for the early morning haters, it opens at 8am and shuts at around 3pm. Visit to buy cut flowers, dried flowers, succulents, cacti, house plants, herbs and other plants.

6) Peter Rabbit Afternoon Tea

This spring, Dilly London is hosting an official Peter Rabbit Afternoon Tea for adults and children. Peter Rabbit was one of my favourite books when I was younger - I loved all the beautiful illustrations. Even the plant pots are edible!

7) Horniman Spring Fair

Throughout the day there will be spectacular events and activities to take part in. My highlights are; spring bonnet parade and competition, garden tours by the garden team, spring trail through the gardens and arts and crafts market with food stalls.
