Why do I prefer container gardening?

Almost all my plants are kept in containers - any shape and size! A lot of people do prefer to garden in raised beds, the soil can keep its quality better year after year in the ground.  But I prefer to use a different container for each plant! Keep reading to hear my pros and cons for container gardening. u/Longjumping-Quit7471, u/Living-Valuable-376, u/Parking-Bit-9217, u/RaintreeJames   What is container gardening? Container gardening is keeping all your plants in pots. It's ideal for if you don't have much space, or for me it works better! For beginners it's a good way to start, you don't need to buy much.  Weeding your plants is much easier: With only the space in the container, it's easier to keep up with weeding. As I’m weeding more often, I find the roots don't get a chance to develop, and they pull out easier. I can avoid the pesky mosquitoes in the summer: Mosquitos are the devil in the summer! Where I still have some beds, over the winter I can't

Why I prefer flower bulbs over seeds

When it comes to growing plants for aesthetic reasons, you will find that everyone has their own opinions about what to grow or what to avoid. For flowers, I much prefer to grow them from bulbs instead of seeds! Keep reading to find out why, and where to get some.

What is the difference between bulbs and seeds?

  • Seeds will have to be sown year after year
  • Bulbs’ foliage will die back, but will grow the following season
  • Bulbs are lower maintenance
  • It can be trickier to move plants grown from seeds around, compared to bulbs
  • Bulbs can be overwintered easily
  • Almost all bulbs are perennial, plants from seeds are annual, biennial, or perennial

What is the benefit of growing flowers from bulbs?

  • Easy to plant, dig a hole of the correct depth and drop in!
  • You don't need much knowledge to grow them
  • They are dependable, as they can grow back every year
  • You can buy early spring and autumn flowering bulbs! If you want them to flower in the winter, you can ‘force’ them indoors

What are some disadvantages of growing bulbs?

  • When handling, they can be very fragile when they’re ‘in the green’
  • Bulbs that are not winter hardy will have to be dug up and correctly stored
  • Some pests like bulb mites can quickly spread if you don’t know how to treat them
